Building and using a statistical 3D motion atlas for analyzing myocardial contraction in MRI

چکیده
We address the issue of modeling and quantifying myocardial contraction from 4D MR sequences, and present an unsupervised approach for building and using a statistical 3D motion atlas for the normal heart. This approach relies on a state-of-the-art variational non rigid registration (NRR) technique using generalized information measures, which allows for robust intra-subject motion estimation and inter-subject anatomical alignment. The atlas is built from a collection of jointly acquired tagged and cine MR exams in shortand long-axis views. Subject-specific non parametric motion estimates are first obtained by incremental NRR of tagged images onto the end-diastolic (ED) frame. Individual motion data are then transformed into the coordinate system of a reference subject using subject-to-reference mappings derived by NRR of cine ED images. Finally, principal component analysis of aligned motion data is performed for each cardiac phase, yielding a mean model and a set of eigenfields encoding kinematic variability. The latter define an organ-dedicated hierarchical motion basis which enables parametric motion measurement from arbitrary tagged MR exams. To this end, the atlas is transformed into subject coordinates by reference-to-subject NRR of ED cine frames. Atlas-based motion estimation is then achieved by parametric NRR of tagged images onto the ED frame, yielding a compact description of myocardial contraction during diastole.

Measuring myocardial motion changes in tagged MR to establish inverse electro-mechanical coupling for XMR-guided RF ablation
Radio-frequency (RF) ablation uses electrode-catheters to destroy abnormally conducting myocardial areas that lead to potentially lethal tachyarrhythmias. The procedure is normally guided with x-rays (2D), leading to errors in location and excessive radiation exposure. One of our goals is to provide preand intra-operative 3D MR guidance in XMR systems (combined X-ray and MRI room) by locating m...

The image recognotion and the classification of objects according to the images are more in focus of interests, especially in medicine. A mathematical procedure allows us, not only to evaluate the amount of data per se, but also ensures that each image is pro- cessed similarly. Here in this study, we propose the power of shape analysis, in conjunction with neural networks for reducing white n...

Regional myocardial function is a complex entity consisting of motion in three dimensions (3D). Besides magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), no other noninvasive technique can give a true 3D description of cardiac motion. Using a time-resolved 3D phase contrast technique, three-dimensional image volumes containing myocardial velocity data in six normal volunteers were acquired. Coordinates and vel...

Objectives: Patellar maltracking is the main reason for pain and disability in patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS). Patellar taping can considerably reduce such pain and disability. This study compared the effectiveness of physiotherapy exercises and kinesio taping on the patellar position in women with PFPS (mean age 32.2±1.12 years) by using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Methods: ...
متن کاملLocalization of Abnormal Conduction Pathways for Tachyarrhythmia Treatment Using Tagged MRI
Tachyarrhythmias are pathological fast heart rhythms often caused by abnormally conducting myocardial areas (foci). Treatment by radio-frequency (RF) ablation uses electrode-catheters to monitor and destroy foci. The procedure is normally guided with x-rays (2D), and thus prone to errors in location and excessive radiation exposure. Our main goal is to provide pre- and intra-operative 3D MR gui...
